👋🇵🇹 After 6 years, Lisbon says Olá, temos festa to DevFest once again! DevFest is the world's largest community-driven tech conference, bringing together passionate developers from around the globe. Hosted annually by Google Developer Groups, DevFest offers a unique opportunity to explore developer tools, learn from Google and Google Developer Experts, and connect with fellow developers.

Keynote: What’s new in Google AI Studio? From vibe coding to agentic AI	By Gerard Sans: Generative AI has shifted gears. In this talk we explore how Google AI Studio now supports multimodal generation (text, image, audio, video) and real-time agents. You’ll see how Studio connects the latest model families (such as Gemini 2.5 and the expected Gemini 3) into a unified workflow of “vibe coding” rather than writing boilerplate. We’ll also dive into the voice-first capabilities made possible via the Gemini Live API: real-time, bidirectional voice and video conversations, tone-aware responses, tool-integration and session memory. Together we’ll look at prompt-to-code flows, media generation, voice-first use cases and the next generation of MCP-driven agentic AI.
Build a contextual Yoga Poses recommender app with Firestore, Vector Search and Gemini	By Laura Morinigo: In this session, you’ll learn how to build a knowledge-driven contextual Yoga Poses search app designed to answer user questions on Yoga poses to match with their questions. It also allows administrative tasks like creating and editing Yoga poses.
Unleashing the Power of Chrome devtools for Web Accessibility Testing	By Anuradha Kumari: When it comes to testing for accessibility of our web apps, most of us would have used Chrome Lighthouse to generate a report and use the results to improve the accessibility of our web apps. However, that is not the only way to test for accessibility, and those tests can only detect a subset of issues. Do you know, there are many other ways in which we can test for accessibility using those same dev tools? In this talk, we will delve beyond the conventional use of Chrome Lighthouse and uncover several alternative methods within the developer tools to test web accessibility. We will explore techniques such as inspecting the accessibility tree, gaining insights into ARIA attributes, emulating various vision disabilities, and more. So, join me in this session, where we will unlock the potential of dev tools to unveil a diverse range of accessibility issues. Let's all learn together and improve how we test for web accessibility, and make the web inclusive for all our users.

Lightning Session: Turning Kafka Chaos into GitOps Zen: Automating Multi-Site Topic with Strimzi, Helm & Argo	By Marcos Prado: Managing Kafka topics and users for every new factory or site used to mean endless copy/paste and config headaches. With Strimzi, Helm, and ArgoCD, we transformed this: teams define topics and users once, then create a folder for any new factory or site—templates handle prefixes, ArgoCD automatically detects changes and deploys resources to the right clusters. This turns repetitive manual work into a scalable, GitOps-driven workflow. You’ll see how developer experience improves, config debt drops, and multi-site Kafka management becomes fast, consistent, and even fun. Great pattern for anyone struggling to scale repeated resource workflows!

Lightning Session: Optimized to Fail: Weird Flexes Holding Developers Back in Cloud Environments	By Jake Page: Modern cloud development has its fair share of "weird flexes" and bad habits disguised as best practices, and they’re costing developers real productivity. You sometimes hear of teams aiming for 100% unit test coverage, fully mocked pipelines, or AI-powered pull request reviews to make sure they don't fall behind industry trends. But too often, these “flexes” optimize for appearance over outcomes. Your mocks don’t behave like production, your AI reviewer is likely going to need a reviewer of it's own, and your perfect CI pipeline hides the fact that none of the tests actually ran in real environments. In this talk, we’ll explore why some of today’s proudest engineering achievements can quietly hold developer teams back. We’ll contrast these “weird flexes” with alternative practices that make developers more effective, practices in my estimation worth flexing like actually self-reviewing code before opening a PR, testing changes in pre-prod using oss tools like mirrod, and questioning tool defaults instead of following hype (Kafka might not be needed, postgres could be enough). We’ll close with practical application of this advice with a live demo showing how mirrord can safely connect your local process to your pre-prod cluster for realistic, fast debugging and testing. Attendees will hopefully come away with the reminder to be wary of vanity practices and over hyped ways of working that can be more detrimental than helpful. But more importantly, they’ll leave with a proven approach to testing and reviewing changes that actually improves developer productivity, one worth flexing.
LEGACY'S END: Context Injector	By Jorge del Casar: [The Mission]: The fight against monolithic legacy code has reached its endgame. In this first chapter of the LEGACY'S END saga, our objective is to dismantle the most critical dependency: the rigid coupling between the UI components and their services. [The Gameplay]: Structured as a RPG adventure, we will explore the evolution of a single UI component from its initial coupled state (Vanilla JS) to its final agnostic form. We will demonstrate how to liberate it by granting it three key abilities: - Encapsulation and isolation (Shadow DOM). - Visual Adaptability using Design Tokens (CSS Custom Properties). - Logical Freedom through the Inversion of Control (IoC) pattern via Context Injection. [The Reward]: You will learn to use the Context Injector to create truly agnostic components that can consume different service implementations (Legacy, New API, or a Mock Service) by simply changing their host context. Get ready to level up your architecture!

From instant translations to real-time image segmentation, modern browsers now pack sophisticated AI capabilities that work offline, protect privacy, and run with native speed. Through frameworks like TensorFlow.js, Transformers.js, MediaPipe, WebLLM and Chrome's built-in AI APIs, developers can now tap into device GPUs and AI accelerated chips to run narrow and generative AI models directly in the browser. Furthermore, many open AI models are on the rise ranging from small to very large LLMs. Discover how to harness these technologies with code examples and demonstrations to build faster, more private, and cloud-independent web applications that work anywhere.
