About this event

Join us for talks on Cloud Spanner and Tensorflow!
Doors open for drinks at 6:00pm, and talks will kickoff at 6:30pm. There'll also be pizza, and when the talks finish up there'll be more time for drinks and networking. Look forward to seeing you then.

Talk 1:
--------
Jemma Stones (Servian) - "Google Cloud Spanner: more than just a garden shed tool"

Cloud Spanner is one of Google's database services that powers many mission critical apps including Google AdWords. This talk will focus on the background and uses for Cloud Spanner and how it stacks up against traditional RDBMSs, MPPs and NoSQL offerings. We will also run through a quick demonstration of how to deploy and operate a Cloud Spanner database within GCP and take a quick look into some of Cloud Spanner's differentiating features including their application of TrueTime technology and automated sharding and performance tuning.

Jemma is a consultant specialising in data engineering and solution architecture, and works at Servian. She has a particular interest in Big Data applications on cloud technologies, and is also a certified GCP Professional Data Engineer & AWS Solutions Architect. Jemma

Talk 2:
--------
Akhilesh Singh (Google) - "Using Tensorflow to build object detection on a RaspberryPi & the Intel Movidius Neural Compute Stick"

The Intel Movidius Neural Compute Stick (NCS) is a tiny fanless deep learning device that you can use to learn AI programming at the edge. NCS is powered by the same low power high performance Intel Movidius Vision Processing Unit (VPU) that can be found in millions of smart security cameras, gesture controlled drones, industrial machine vision equipment, and more.

Akhilesh has over 11 years of experience in various roles in retail & telecom domain with around 5 years in e-Commerce project delivery. He has worked with Fortune 500 companies in US, UK & India to capitalize on emerging technologies for the purpose of improving operations and enhancing consumer/customer experience.
