COVID-19 Search Hackathon - Getting help to those who need it fast

Building a sustainable future after the COVID-19 Crisis using the best of breed in technology with big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

We're focused on putting recently laid off engineers back to work and finding the best solutions to help the planet manage its resources more effectively.

For this hackathon, UC Irvine graduate students will answer the challenge question: How do we create the ultimate help profile to help people recover from the COVID-19 crisis?

The virtual hackathon will take place on January 25-30.

The summary of the logistics of the hackathon is as follows:

The sponsors of the event are:

Your participation would be as a speaker, mentor or technical volunteer.  

  • Participation includes: 1 hour of speaking, 30 minute prep call the week before, call will be recorded. Presentation plus panel style with moderated Q&A (half from moderator noted in advance, half from audience).
  • Audience: California based primarily, but global as well. Non-profits are majority, with government, business, startups, and academics. Ranges from senior executives to students

Run of show is as follows:

  • Monday 1/25 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm - Speaker + Review dataset
  • Tuesday 1/26 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm - Video + other materials
  • Wednesday 1/27 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm - Video + other materials
  • Thursday 1/28 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm - Video + other materials
  • Friday 1/29 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm - Speaker
  • Saturday 1/30 2 pm - 5 pm - Speaker + Wind-down (Google Cloud account)

There will be 7 students per team up to 100 students (up to 14 teams).

Teams will be judged on modeling and visualization abilities as well as innovation. Prizes are firm, but happy to accept more prizes from anyone who wants to contribute.

Here's what we're looking for immediately for the event:

Up to 5 speakers (via Zoom)

5 mentors to mentor up to 14 teams (via Zoom and Discord.com)

3 to 5 judges (via Zoom)

We also are looking for 2 to 3 volunteers for tech support training. Mentors, judges are welcome as well for prep. Volunteer / tech support training is on January 20. We'll review the protocols for:

  • Using Google Cloud
  • Dataset
  • Run of show
