The story of Ascend Nonprofit and Business Solutions is a testament to the power of necessary endings. When the founder's health deteriorated, she was forced to take a leave of absence from her high-stress job and eventually leave it altogether. Necessary endings required her to make peace with her past and let go of the things that were holding her back. In that valley, she found her assignment and her new direction - serving community through her grant writing expertise. By pouring everything into telling the story of her clients' missions and using her experience, networking, and know-how to raise over $50+ million, she and her team are making a strong human connection and leaving a legacy. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to benefit from these technologies. In particular, the elderly, those with disabling conditions, and others are often unable to realize the technology’s potential.
In this presentation, we will talk about how technology can support caregivers in their challenging journey with their loved ones.

Arlene Siller, loves to move money; a grant writing, fundraising expert, Arlene started her grant writing career over 25 years ago securing $49M in funding and reviewing grants in the scientific and biomedical research sectors. Six years ago, she transitioned her expertise and ability into the nonprofit area, where she raised over $35M in four years, for a multi-state organization, and found her calling to serve nonprofits. She is Founder and CEO of Ascend Nonprofit & Business Solutions LLC ─ one of the most sought-after grant writing firms in the industry. In 2019, they raised $3.2M for multiple nonprofit organizations helping them fund their mission. When not working on all things Ascend NBS, Arlene loves spending time with her family watching movies, hanging out and going to the beach, jet skiing on the lake, or chilling in the cool river on a hot Texas day. If there is music, she will be dancing somewhere and is known to make a dance floor even if there isn’t one. She is a social advocate working in her community with various nonprofits, nonprofit supporting agencies, church, schools and minority- and women-owned small businesses.

Dominique Luster is a Professional Archivist, Researcher, and Storyteller. She loves finding new and innovative ways to use information, technology, and primary sources to tell stories and solve problems. She is drawn to big ideas involving diverse histories, public engagement, strategic thinking and planning, and project management. Her research looks at various archival and historiographical approaches to Black identity, representation, and silenced records.
Paula Muller, Ph.D. is the Founder of Sociavi Co. She has a lifelong passion for technology applied to healthcare. She got her M.S. in Biomedical Engineering in Chile working with the blind, then in Switzerland, she analyzed EEGs to prevent epileptic seizures, followed by her Ph.D. and Post-doc work at Rutgers with Parkinson's patients, and later at Authentidate with Telehealth products and services.
Paula is certified in Individual Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (iCST), a Dementia Sales Advisor (DSA-NC), a Dementia Care Certified (CDC), a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia Care Training (CADDCT), and a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), and volunteers as a bilingual Community Educator and support group facilitator for the Alzheimer's Association.
The concept of Sociavi evolved from her professional background as well as her strong commitment to family relations and lifetime connections. Thus SOCIAVI was born, meaning in Latin to “share” & “unite”, with the goal of keeping those aging in place and their families connected and closer together.
Aashni Shah is a multinational citizen who grew up in Kenya before moving to Canada for University. She is currently the founder of HypeDocs, a platform to help businesses retain employees by focusing on employee needs. Prior to this, Aashni was a Software Engineer with experience working at companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Square. Aashni is passionate about bringing more tech to developing countries and increasing the representation of girls and women in STEM. She has been recognized with awards such as the Top 50 Inspiring Women in STEM in Canada.
HypeDocs is a platform designed to help businesses retain their employees. We do this by focusing on what employees need; to feel valued, to be recognized for their work, and to see their career development line up with their goals. We have recently launched a Slack App to accompany our Web App, where people can create the goals they’re working towards, add every small and big win, and get recognition for this work throughout the company. We’ve designed features to increase engagement, such as personalized reminders, and are building more inclusive, accountable and transparent system to help employees thrive.
Emily Woodman-Nance is the CEO and Co-Founder of At Their Side, a HIPAA compliant 24/7 healthcare status platform that enables healthcare providers to communicate with families easily and efficiently. With over 20 years of technology experience, Emily has a diverse work history, ranging from working for Big 4 consulting and Fortune 500 companies to delivering technical solutions utilized in private sector industries and the FBI. Her overall commitment to giving back to those underrepresented in Corporate America, innovation and technology is still strong, as she mentors and speaks at conferences and events.
Shayvonne Jenkins born and raised in Harlem, NYC is the Founder & CEO of SheBillionaire Enterprises, a portfolio of businesses, brands and investments.
