Apply now to join us for a hands-on workshop designed specifically for researchers and students who want to learn Python - the language of AI. Tailored for beginners with little to no prior coding experience, the course will build from core Python concepts essential for data manipulation and analysis and lead into practical use-cases for AI-powered workflows.
Expect a casual pace as we explore common science data types (csv, spatial, temporal, vector, raster, etc) and AI-accelerated workflows (Large Language Models, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Agents, etc).
Participants will gain a practical understanding of:
Python Fundamentals: Learn the basic syntax, data types (like numbers, strings, lists, and dictionaries), and control flow (loops and conditionals) in Python.
Working with Data: Understand how to import, clean, and manipulate scientific datasets using powerful Python libraries like Pandas.
Setting up your Environment: Learn how to set up a AI-enabled Python environment suitable for scientific computing with Colab and Gemma.
AI for Science: Get hands-on experience using AI in various scientific domain problems with specific examples you can replicate to your workflows.
Expect a casual pace as we work through Python Notebooks to demonstrate data wrangling and AI workflows.
The course will be all hands-on exercises and live coding demonstrations to reinforce your learning and build confidence.
Requirements:
A Google account to use Colab for Python https://colab.research.google.com/ and to get an API key from https://aistudio.google.com/apikey (demonstrated in the course).
Your own laptop is required (and it must be able to visit colab.research.google.com) - wireless internet will be provided.
Lunch and snacks provided throughout the day!
Who should attend:
Researchers
Students (PhD, Masters, Undergrad)
Research professional and technical staff
